Pirelli introduces new soft compound for 2025

Pirelli adds a new compound to its tire range for next season: this is the C6. During free practice session 2 at the Mexican Grand Prix, the teams will carry out tire tests.

Pirelli tyres 2024

The Italian tire manufacturer, with an eye on the future of Formula 1, introduces this tire, which is characterized by being the softest of all. This is done with the aim that the teams have a greater variety of strategies, on circuits where tire wear is almost zero (because these tires are planned for teams to use them on urban circuits).

In 2023 Pirelli tried to include a harder compound in its range: they had called it C0. Unfortunately, this implementation did not work and was scrapped by F1 and the tire company. For this reason and with the advances and changes that are coming to the category, Pirelli will try again with the C6 compound.

Currently, Pirelli's range goes from C1 to C5: the higher the number, the softer the tire. Furthermore, it is worth remembering that for each Grand Prix weekend, the Italian brand chooses three compounds. These being the compounds with the best performance on the circuit.

According to the information provided by the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, Pirelli has decided to include the C6 in its 2025 range due to the notable presence of urban circuits on the calendar, where soft tires are usually chosen, as they provide a greater grip and adapt better to the characteristics of these asphalts.

The teams will be able to test this compound during free practice two of the Mexican Grand Prix. This session will last one and a half hours so that the teams can test their cars as usual, but also they can try the C6 tires.
