The race was full of challenges with difficult track conditions, resulting in several retirements. Lance Stroll retired before even starting, during the formation lap. Nico Hülkenberg also had to retire after receiving a black flag because he left the track and received outside help to rejoin, which is not allowed. Franco Colapinto was also out of competition after hitting the wall, and Carlos Sainz suffered an accident that took him out of the race. In addition, Alex Albon had already been ruled out before the start due to the crash he suffered in qualifying.
At the start, Lando Norris lost first position to George Russell. However, both drivers maintained an impressive pace, holding those positions in the early laps. Norris was spinning at a faster pace than Russell, but a red flag altered the course of the race, hurting both of them and relegating them far behind Max Verstappen and other competitors. In the end, Russell finished in fourth place, while Norris crossed the finish line in sixth place. A weekend to forget for McLaren.
Great performance by the Alpine drivers, who managed to take both places on the podium, marking their first podium of the season. With all the points obtained by Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, Alpine climbs to sixth place in the constructors' championship, surpassing its direct rivals: Haas, Williams and Racing Bulls.
Max Verstappen took an impressive victory after starting from 17th position on the grid, once again demonstrating his dominance on the track. With this victory, Verstappen extends his lead in the drivers' championship, reaching a distance of 62 points over his pursuer, Lando Norris.
