Lando Norris the fastest in the only free practice of the Brazilian Grand Prix
Lando Norris takes the best time in the only practice session of the Brazilian Grand Prix. The McLaren driver recorded a time of 1:10.610, becoming the fastest of the session. Behind him, George Russell took second place, while Ollie Bearman completed the top three.
The session was intense and action-packed, as it was the only opportunity for the drivers to test different configurations on their cars during the weekend. With the special format of this Grand Prix, which includes a sprint race scheduled for tomorrow, track time was limited, forcing the teams to maximize each lap in search of the best set-up.
In the first minutes of the session, it was confirmed that Max Verstappen will receive a five-position penalty for Sunday's race due to the change of the combustion engine in his car. In addition, the Red Bull driver showed some problems with the car, feeling uncomfortable on the track, a situation that we have observed in him during recent weekends.
Despite this, minutes later, they managed to set a great time, positioning Red Bull as strong candidates for this weekend. On the other hand, both Mercedes arrive with outstanding performance and, throughout the entire session, they have recorded good times, despite the fact that the drivers experienced rebound problems in the car. It is important to note that in these free practices it is very difficult to determine which car is better, since different configurations are tested, which makes a precise comparison impossible.
During the lap test with medium tires, both the Ferraris and the McLarens showed certain difficulties, falling a little behind compared to the performance that the Red Bulls and Mercedes were showing.
The surprises of the session were the great pace shown by the Williams with both drivers and the impressive time of Ollie Bearman with a Haas, which places him in third place at the close of the session.
Ollie Bearman will be the driver who will replace Kevin Magnussen in today's sessions and in the sprint race, due to Magnussen not being in good health. However, Magnussen is expected to be in better condition for qualifying in the main race tomorrow.
