The Las Vegas Grand Prix is distinguished by the low temperatures that characterize the track. During this session, a track temperature of just 15 degrees was recorded, which represents an additional challenge for the drivers. These conditions make it difficult to bring the tires to the optimal temperature, affecting grip and performance with each lap.
Despite this challenge, the Mercedes have stood out throughout the season in these types of conditions, showing solid performance on tracks with low temperatures. On the other hand, both McLaren and Ferrari also looked comfortable and competitive during the session, making it clear that they will fight to set the best times this weekend.
The surprises of the session came from Kevin Magnussen with Haas, a team that has shown notable progress in its performance during the last few races. Likewise, Pierre Gasly stood out by placing his Alpine in the top ten, confirming his good pace at the start of the weekend.
On the other hand, although the Red Bulls did not lead in this session, they continue to show a solid performance heading into the weekend. During yesterday's interviews, Checo Pérez revealed that his car has an important update that will allow him to get closer to the performance of his teammate, Max Verstappen. This improvement includes the use of the same floor that Verstappen has used since the Austin Texas Grand Prix, which could make a key difference to his performance.
Furthermore, Oscar Piastri confirmed in an interview that, for this weekend, there will be no team orders for the McLaren drivers. With only three races remaining on the calendar and minimal chances of challenging for the drivers' championship title, the team has decided to prioritize the constructors' championship. Therefore, drivers will be allowed to compete freely to score as many points as possible for the team. However, Piastri also noted that specific situations could arise where his help is needed, and he is willing to collaborate if the team requires it.
The top 10 of the first practice remains:
