Checo's goodbye to Red Bull: Tsunoda and Lawson in dispute for the seat

Since the beginning of the summer break, rumors began to circulate. The Red Bull team, along with its leaders Helmut Marko and Christian Horner, were not completely satisfied with the performance of the Mexican driver Sergio "Checo" Pérez. After months of speculation, it was finally confirmed that Pérez will leave the team at the end of the 2024 season, ending his time at Red Bull starting in 2025.

Through their social networks, the team and the driver announced their immediate separation. In addition, they shared messages of gratitude for the four years together, a period in which Sergio "Checo" Pérez achieved a total of five victories and a performance that helped the team win the constructors' titles in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the past four years with Oracle Red Bull Racing and for the opportunity to race with such an amazing team. Driving for Red Bull has been an unforgettable experience and I’ll always cherish the successes we achieved together. We broke records, reached remarkable milestones, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people along the way. A big thank you to every person in the team from the management, engineers and mechanics, catering, hospitality, kitchen, marketing and communications, as well as everyone at Milton Keynes, I wish you all the best for the future. It has also been an honour to race alongside Max as a team mate all these years and to share in our success. A special thank you to the fans around the world, and especially to the Mexican fans for your unwavering support every day. We’ll meet again soon. And remember… never give up.”Checo said.

The team director, Christian Horner, also expressed his gratitude to Sergio "Checo" Pérez for his collaboration during these four years with the team. Furthermore, Horner highlighted that Checo will always be considered part of the Red Bull family.

“His five wins, all on street circuits, were also a spectacular mark of his determination to always push to the limit. While Checo will not race for the team next season, he will always be an extremely popular team member and a treasured part of our history. Thank you, Checo.” said Christian Horner.

Although the Mexican driver and the team had signed a contract at the beginning of the year that extended until the end of the 2026 season, this agreement will not be fulfilled. Sergio "Checo" Pérez will not be on the Formula 1 grid starting next year. At the moment, it has not been confirmed which driver will take his seat alongside Max Verstappen; the main options seem to be between Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda. Likewise, the official announcement regarding Visa cash app Racing Bulls team lineup for next season is pending.
